On 4.2: Go to the SD Card Menu (SD button in Wii menu) 5. Choose Data management, then Wii, go to Channels and finally click SD card at the top right. On 4.1/lower: Go to the Wii options (the big Wii button on the bottom left). Now if I were downloading Wii games from torrents all day long and transferring them to my HDD with a WBFS manager there is no doubt in my mind that at some point I'd get reported and be fined/sued for a good deal of money. Insert the SD card in the wii and turn on the Wii. Everyone is happy and has no reason to come after me. Nintendo got paid for the console, extra controllers and several games, third party publishers got their money when I purchased their games, some place in China got some money off me when I bought a custom stand with charging docks for my Wii motes. What I'm getting at is while it is technically illegal for me to own a modified console I'm not taking money out of anyone's pocket. If I sell a game (which happens all too often because I'm poor) I delete it from the hard drive. I dumped the games myself to the hard drive with the loader. I'm using usb loading but I own all my games and still have the disc copies with manuals and cases. There is a big difference between running homebrew software (like Wiiradio which streams free internet radio stations) and downloading dumps of Wii games and running them through a usb loader. What gets people in to trouble is what a softmodded console enables you to do: Pirate video games. But be wary of giving absolute advice on the legality of things if you're not a lawyer.įrom what I know it is about as illegal as making a copy of a CD/DVD you own. Not that I agree with the DMCA in any shape or form. I think you'll find the draconian DMCA will have sections that infer it is indeed illegal.
